This cool and shady garden behind our business office serves as our demonstration garden for plants that tolerate shade, featuring such shrubs as Spreading English Yew (Taxus), Aucuba and Leatherleaf Mahonia, as well as numerous perennials like Lenten Rose (Helleborus), Painted Arum (Arum italicum), Barrenwort (Epimedium), European Ginger (Asarum) and Maidenhair Ferns (Adiantum). In the early spring you will see many native wildflowers that are naturalizing nicely beneath a stand of native walnut, elm, hackberry and hickory trees. Later in the spring you can see thousands of daffodils that the former owners planted in rings around each tree on the hillside – a wonderful sight after a long dreary winter!
